Party Walls

Within
our Building Surveying Departments in Preston and Blackburn,
Lancashire, we have Surveyors who
specialise in dealing with Party Wall matters.
The Party Wall Act stipulates that certain construction
works require a Notice to be prepared and served on the
owner of the adjoining property, under the Act. Briefly
these works include:
- work on an existing wall or structure shared with
another property
- building an extension near to a shared wall
- building a free-standing wall or a wall of a
building up to or astride the boundary with a
neighbouring property
- building a wall on the party line where the
foundations may spread into the adjoining owner's
property
- underpinning a structure in close proximity to a
shared wall
- raising a party wall at roof level to enclose on it
and build habitable space at roof level
If you are intending to carry out you works that fall within
the Act, our Surveyors can assist in all Party Wall matters,
from providing initial advice on whether the Act would be
applicable to your works through to serving relevant
Notices, preparing a Party Wall Award and a Schedule of
Condition, etc.
The Government has produced a useful explanatory booklet on
the Party Wall Etc. Act 1996 which
can be found here.
